AP Seminar Project- Recording/Mixing/Mastering Sydney Jade Singles

In this capstone project, I display all the audio studio skills I’ve learned in the Recording Arts Program at CU Denver. My role is to engineer two singles from singer-songwriter Sydney Jade (Sydney Yllanes). I recorded, tracked, mixed, mastered, and partially produced these songs as I accommodated the client's requests.

Audio Production II and III Group Projects

For each final project, my groups were assigned to showcase the skills learned from class.

In the AP II group project, we focused on practicing effective microphone selection, microphone placement, gain staging, and tracking techniques. We tracked a cover of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" that included four instruments with two stereo miking techniques and two mono miking techniques. This was NOT a mixing project, so no signal processing was done to any of the tracks and the faders were leveled.

In the AP III group project, I was able display the skills I learned over the past year in AP II and III through tracking recording and mixing techniques. My group and I tracked a cover of "Stand By Me" which included of vocals, guitar, piano, and bass. We included both stereo, mono, and room microphone placements throughout tracking the recordings. We used a hybrid format to mix our project first through analog on the SSL console and then digitally through Pro Tools.

Audio Production III-

These were three individual mixing projects we were tasked to do independently throughout the course. The first mix was an "In the Box" mix in Pro Tools where only digital plug-ins could be used and no outboard gear. The mix displayed techniques I learned in class (proper track organization, track grouping, signal routing/sends/busing, signal processing- EQ, compression, reverb, delay).

The second mix was a hybird mix where I used Pro Tool plug-ins and outboard gear in combination. At that point of the semester, I was taught more mixing techinques about Pro Tool plugins and outboard gear in studio H which I applied to this mix.

The final mix was a drumkit analog mix where I soley used the SSL AWS924 gear and other outboard gear. The drumkit Pro-Tools session was used as a digital tape as all signal processing was done on the SSL board.

Music and Enterainment Marketing- Marketing Plan Project

In this project, my team and I were assigned to create a marketing plan for a Colorado local band Ramakhandra. This was a detail-oriented project with several sections to help promote the artist. It consisted of an objective, an artist biography, a SWOT analysis, a product description/distribution, and specific plans for common promotion tools in marketing.
